A margarita no one will believe came from a mix? Is that a thing?
If you've been following my reviews for a while then you know two things about me that *required* me to try this mix from Barcoop Bevy. First, I live for a good margarita. Margaritas will always be my number one cocktail. And secondly, I am a total sucker for cute packaging which this bottle has in spades. Add to that, that I love a spicy margarita above all other margaritas and that the bottle includes a recipe for a big batch cocktail and it was a no brainer to pick this one up. It is a double whammy on both of my soft spots!
I mean, how convenient is this? A big batch recipe listed right on the bottle and you use the bottle as a measuring cup!?!?! Pure genius. My first thought when I saw that was this is the perfect line of mixes to take camping or to a concert - anywhere you won't be likely to have a measuring cup but still want to make a LOT of cocktails.
But now to the serious stuff. How did this mix actually taste? Does it live up to its genius packaging? Let's find out.
Here is my official review of Barcoop Bevy Spicy Strawberry Margarita mix:
Yep, I did it. I gave this mix FIVE STARS! And I swear it is not just because I'm obsessed with how cute the packaging is - which it is. It is because this is a seriously good margarita. It is spicy without being crazy. It has a enough of a strawberry flavor that you know it's not a traditional margarita but not so much that it is over powering. I've tried other strawberry margaritas that were so sweet they should not be allowed to be called a margarita. But not this one. This is a spicy strawberry margarita worthy of being served at a fancy bar - or your own front porch like I did.
Pop in a "margaritas made me do it" straw, cheers your drinking buddy and you are set to have the best at-home margarita of all time.
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
Thankfully, this strawberry margarita mix is not sweet. As I said, I've had a few strawberry margaritas in my day that were so sweet they should have been called a daiquiri. Just because it has tequila in it doesn't mean you can call it a margarita - jeez!
But back to this mix from Barcoop Bevy, it is not sweet. It is exactly as a margarita should be. The strawberry makes it slightly sweeter than if it was a traditional citrus margarita but it is by no means a "sweet cocktail".
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = Four Lokos
If you make this using the recipe on the bottle - 2 parts mix, 1 part tequila - it comes out pretty darn boozy. I like it! But you could totally change the ratio for a less boozy cocktail. The mix is super tasty on it's own so you won't be missing out on anything but the hangover if you decide to go that route.
One other note, this is a seriously good mix so don't use your crappy old tequila and ruin it. That would be a crime against cocktails everywhere! Go ahead and bust out the good stuff for this round of margaritas.
Would I buy this margarita mix again?
For sure! No question about it. I loved this margarita mix so I'll be buying it again for summer parties.
I spotted this cutie at Total Wine along with a few other flavors from this brand. The Barcoop Bevy line also includes:
- Cucumber Mojito
- Ginger Smash
- Grapefruit Margarita
- Pina Colada - I have my eye on this one next!
