Four Styles of Mules? Sign me up!
When I first started writing these ready-to-drink cocktail reviews a few summers ago I thought that I did not like Mules. I really dislike anything ginger so the idea of a cocktail that's main ingredient was ginger flavored totally turned me off. Then I tried a canned cocktail Mule that was so bitter/spicy/whatever-the-right-word-is-to-describe-that-ginger-bite that it made my eyes water and that pretty much sealed the deal for me. Fast forward a year when I made a new friend who primarily drank Mules when we were out at a bar so I decided to try them again. And it was amazing! I'd been missing out on the amazingness of this cocktail for years.
Since then I've been on the hunt to try every ready-to-drink Mule and Mule cocktail mix I can get my hands on. So when 'Merican Mule offered to let me try their line I jumped at the chance.
For this review I enlisted two of my friends to help me evaluate all four versions. It was so much fun sipping, discussing and arguing over which one was the best. We all agreed that these were a great addition to our socially distanced, outdoor happy hour.
'Merican Mule's Moscow Style:
Overall score: 4 / 5
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
This is the OG, most traditional Mule in the 'Merican Mule line up with vodka as the liquor. I tried this one first because that seemed like the most natural place to start. This ready-to-drink Mule is really smooth. It does not have that bite to it that other's I've tried do. It has a good ginger beer flavor to it but it's not super dominate. I think my friends explained it best when they said they wouldn't necessarily know this was a boozy cocktail. The liquor flavor is so well blended with the ginger beer that you could easily mistake it for a nice fizzy soda sans alcohol.
I think this is the perfect Mule for anyone who likes a vodka cocktail that has more flavor and depth than the sparkling vodka cocktails that are popular right now. This canned cocktail has a super refreshing flavor with the perfect amount of fizz. I love this cocktail for how light and easy it is to sip. It is perfect for summer so if you've been drinking White Claws all summer, I highly suggest you upgrade to this 'Merican Mule Moscow Style.

'Merica Mule's Southern Style:
Overall score: 4.5 / 5
Sweetness:
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
One shaker = does this have booze? Five shakers = OG Four Lokos
This Mule has bourbon as the liquor so this was the 'Merican Mule I was most looking forward to trying - and it did not disappoint. I really really like this mule - hence why it is getting my very first ever 4.5 stars!
The traditional mule flavor is there with the ginger beer but the bourbon flavor is less expected for a combination that totally works for me. It's a perfect marriage of two of my favorite cocktail flavors - whiskey and Mules.
The base Mule flavor here is very similar to the 'Merican Mule Moscow Style so the ginger beer flavor is super smooth and on the lighter side and the whiskey flavor is in proportion to that, making this canned cocktail overall a very easy to drink Mule - even if you are not generally a fan of either flavors. This is a super solid cocktail and a fun twist on a standard Mule.
As my friend E put it, we really "enjoyed the creativity of the Southern Style Mule - a little bit fun but also serious."

Would I buy these again?
I think I would. I love that there are 4 different Mule flavors from 'Merican Mules which makes it the perfect party pack. My friends and I definitely enjoyed trying each flavor and comparing notes about which one we liked the best.
Make sure to stop by next Friday when I review the other two flavors, the Tropical Mule and the Mexican Mule.
