Of course I had to dressed up my Carbliss can a bit before I started sipping. You can't go wrong with a colorful "cheers" can Swizzly Sticks and bendy paper straws. 😉
Now onto the tasting!
Here is my official review of the Carbliss cocktails:
On taste alone, I'm giving these a 4 out of 5. The Carbliss ready-to-drink vodka cocktails are pretty sweet which I like and they do have a full flavor which I also really like.
I started with the Lemon Lime sort of expecting it to be like Sprite. It does taste a lot like Sprite but even more concentrated. You know when you get a fountain drink and you can taste the difference in the syrup to water ratio? Sometimes it is really good aka more syrup and other times it's just off? These are like when the syrup ratio is way higher than the water which results is a really flavorful cocktail.
All four flavors had that same, super concentrated flavor. The Lemon Lime end up being my favorite but I did like them all. My friend B said they tasted like Otterpops and I totally agree. Think snow cone juice sans ice.
If you are looking for a super flavorful cocktail that will take you back to your childhood, give the Carbliss cocktails a try.
One shaker = not sweet at all // Five shakers = your teeth may curl
Sweet! The Carbliss canned cocktails are sweet! They are one of the sweetest ready-to-drink cocktails I've had. I like sweet cocktails so I really liked that aspect.
While B and I were discussing the flavor of these she was looking at the can and noticed that they are sweetened with "artificial sweetener" and there is not an ingredient list on the can so there is no way to know what that sweetener is. Given how sweet these are it makes you think there must be a lot of it, whatever it is. B is gluten-free and eats Paleo as much as possible so she thinks about those things way more than I do and I really appreciated that perspective. She also said she probably wouldn't drink another one because of that. It is an interesting insight especially since the branding around these canned cocktails makes you think they are a touch healthier since they are no carb, no sugar.
These ready-to-drink vodka cocktails officially rings in at 5% ABV so it is on the light end. I think I've only tried one other canned cocktail that was lighter than 5%. I didn't get any hint of booze from these cocktails in flavor or in feel. If you like a lighter alcohol content, then these might be perfect to give a try.
But wait, there's more! The brand shared with me a few cocktail recipes they've created using the Carbliss cocktails so I wanted to try those as well and share them with you too.
First up, pour half and half of the Black Raspberry & Lemon together over ice:
Would I buy this ready to drink cocktail again?
This is a tough one for me. On one hand, I did like the full flavor of these cocktails. I understand the niche that they are aiming for with the 0 carb, 0 sugar angle but I can't shake what my friend B pointed out about the artificial sweetener. While I personally don't watch things like that that closely, what she said still resonated with me. I think if these were made with a natural sweetener it would make more sense to me for their niche. Plus I always love cocktails that have real cane sugar or agave as the sweetener. Those tend to be a winning bet when you are out shopping for ready-to-drink cocktails.
Setting that bit of it aside, I did like the Carbliss cocktails and I wouldn't hesitate to drink one again if I saw one in a cooler at a party.
